John Harvey's Charlie Resnick novels aren't strictly hardboiled, but
they certainly derive from that tradition. On the other hand, they have
certain filmic qualities--his pacing and scene and character setup owe
something to the world of motion pictures.

I mention Harvey because Resnick is such a jazz lover and each novel
devotes some time to Resnick's fascination with jazz. I read
somewhere--I think it was on Harvey's Web page--that a big incentive for
writing the Resnick novels was to have a venue for writing about jazz in
the way he wanted.

I think some or one of these novels was adapted for BBC television. Has
anyone seen these shows? And, if so, was the musical score jazz-based?
