Wed, 19 Nov 1997 12:06:47 -0500 (EST) I haven't read all the posts on this subject, however I do want to recommend
the soundtrack of THIS WORLD, THEN THE FIREWORKS. I just purchased it in CD
format. Music by Pete Rugolo. If you all haven't seen the movie, it's a big
recommend from me. Lots of bongos and percussion. According to a friend,
it's very Chet Baker. Actually, there is some Chet Baker on the soundtrack .
I'm eager to get the video/DVD when released (date?).

Here's some info on Pete Rugolo (from the liner notes):

Chief arranger for the Stan Kenton orchestra (mid to late 40s)

He developed a "whole new set of pieces that employed aspects of Stravinsky
and Bartok, dismissing danceable tempos altogether in favor of a moody,
emotionallyy arresting, offten a-tonal approach."

Became the music director at Capitol Records, arranging/producing for every
one including Mel Torme, Peggy Lee and Nat Cole.

Produced Miles's "Birth of the Cool" sessions.

Over the 50s, 60s and 70s he did many arrangements for Hollywood. The tv
version of THE THIN MAN. Scores for The Fugitive, Thriller, Richard Diamond,
Run for your Life, The Bold Ones, episodes of the Untouchables, Hawaii 5-0,
Alfred Hitchcock Presents and M*A*S*H.

Enjoy!
