Ah, but the best "death by book" episode must be from
Webster's "The
Duchess of Malfi,"
wherein the Cardinal gets his mistress to swear that she is
telling him the
truth by kissing the Bible, which he has sprinkled with
poison. Of course,
he gets his a bit later...along with a bunch of others--so
many bodies in
the last scene that some must crawl off stage so audiences
won't get too
tickled.
