RARA-AVIS: Robert Edmond Alter

Mon, 22 Sep 1997 17:37:43 -0500 (CDT) Recently Doug Levin wrote, about Alter's _Swamp Sister_,
"I got strangely sick on the trip. Now, whenever I think about returning
to it, waves of nausea sweep over me and I get edgy about spending time
with my family [in California]. Maybe after some therapy, I can manage to
finish the book, and then post about my
impressions of the whole thing."

Thanks for sharing that, Doug...I think.

Never considered books as carriers. Do remember reading an article about
how very old books sometimes have mold containing hallucinogens
(seriously). Perhaps you should send your copy to us so we can test it for
toxicity by reading it and, for your benefit, someone can read the
unfinished portion onto tape so you can listen and, in so doing, rid
yourself of--well--at least blaming an innocent book for a natural
reluctance to visit family.

Not quite seriously,

Bill Hagen
