Here's the blurb from the local alternative paper: Adapted
from a
posthumously published novella by pulp kingpin Jim Thompson
with a
literal-mindedness that makes the average episode of Dragnet
seem as organic
and emotionally evolved as a Mike Leigh film, THIS WORLD'S
packaging is
perhaps its most interesting angle. A thumb-sucking minx with
blow-job eyes
(Gina Gershon) faces off with a caterwauling cop with a yen
for sin (Sheryl
Lee) over possession of the lunk they love too much:
Billy
"I-may-have-played-THE-PHANTOM-but-no-one-
really-cares" Zane. It's SHOWGIRLS meets SAVAGE NIGHT, with a
side of raw
beefcake.
I feel compelled to check out SAVAGE NIGHT.
Purchased the soundtrack (music by Pete Rugolo (THE THIN MAN,
THE FUGUTIVE,
THRILLER, RICHARD DIAMOND, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE, THE BOLD ONES,
and episodes of
THE UNTOUCHABLES, HAWAII 5-0, ALFRED HTICHCOCK PRESENTS and
M*A*S*H.
It worked for me.
