RARA-AVIS: Brackett; Neilsen

Mon, 11 Aug 1997 21:49:46 -0500 I've read and enjoyed most of Leigh Brackett's science fiction novels and
was also very impressed with her screenplays such as Rio Bravo, The Big
Sleep, and The Long Goodbye. Haven't read much of her mystery fiction,
though. "So Pale, So Cold, So Fair" is a good story with a nice fast pace
and enough plot for a full-length novel.

I had a pretty good idea how Helen Neilsen's "A Piece of Ground" was going
to turn out, but I was sure hoping I was wrong. Neilsen did that good a
job of making me really care about the farmer. A powerful story, very
effective.
