RARA-AVIS: Re: Ed Noon

DOUGLAS GREENE (dgg100f@hamlet.bal.odu.edu)
Mon, 11 Aug 1997 10:37:31 EST I agree with James Reasoner about Ed Noon. Some people, like Bill
Pronzini, find him over the top--Bill has a long section about Mike
Avallone and Noon in his history of dreadful mystery fiction, GUN IN
CHEEK. But I find the "Nooniverse" hilarious--full of old movie
schticks, wacky dialogue, and a unique view of the world. I think
all the US editions are paperbacks, but many appeared in UK in
hardcover.

Mike did a short-story collection about Noon for Scholastic Books,
aimed at teenagers. I think it was called 5-MINUTE MYSTERIES.
