I agree with James Reasoner about Ed Noon. Some people, like
Bill
Pronzini, find him over the top--Bill has a long section about
Mike
Avallone and Noon in his history of dreadful mystery fiction,
GUN IN
CHEEK. But I find the "Nooniverse" hilarious--full of old movie
schticks, wacky dialogue, and a unique view of the world. I
think
all the US editions are paperbacks, but many appeared in UK in
hardcover.
Mike did a short-story collection about Noon for Scholastic
Books,
aimed at teenagers. I think it was called 5-MINUTE
MYSTERIES.
