Yes, they did.  You can see a picture of the issue in William Nolan's
biography of Hammett.

I'm not surprised that BLACK MASK didn't feature Hammett on the cover for
two issues in a row.  After all, Hammett was not their most popular
contributor (if I recall, in a reader's poll, Carroll John Daly and Erle
Stanley Gardner received more votes than Hammett did).

Frederick Nebel actually isn't bad; Chandler, if I recall, was a big fan
of his work.

Well, if you can find the FIRST installment for that price, I would be
interested myself ...
