Hmmm.. somebody should wake that Smith guy up, and tell him to get that damn site updated. It's been way too long since it had a serious update. Has anyone figured out how to live without sleep? If so, please contact me...

But speaking of hockey and private eyes, the hero in Michael Ayoob's upcoming (and unsettling) IN SEARCH OF MERCY is a former high school star goalie. This is not your typical PWA/SMP Best First P.I. Novel Contest winner -- it's darker and more disturbing, less beholden to tradition than usual. It has its flaws (the whole "looking for a lost film noir actress" bit is a little too self-referential, a little too cute), but it just may signal a sharp new talent worth watching.

And in other hockey news, they're thinking of scrapping women's hockey in the Olympics because the Canadians keep kicking everyone's butts.

Meanwhile, millionaire professional jocks and their corporate logos are allowed to compete against amateurs. Go figure....
