    Yes, Dave and I, who usually see eye-to-eye, have differing viewpoints on that character. Having said that, though, I agree with Dave that Smith's MIXED BLOOD is a compelling and worthwhile read. While there may have been elements in it that were a bit over-the top (though certainly not to the extent of BEAT THE REAPER), it's a book that's tough to put down and stays with you...as I type this, many months since having read it, I can still remember it vividly, and for me that's pretty unusual. It's a not a perfect book, but it's quite good, and I'm looking forward to reading WAKE UP DEAD.
