    Jim, Brian, and all,

Thanks for the excellent notes and opinions on "best noir." While I am late to the R.A. party, please know that I am taking notes (literally), and your opinions will guide my future reading, quite beneficially I believe.

The good news is that FALCON is due up for me soon (as I'm reading Hammett in order), and I also clearly need to move Woolrich up in the pile (I've only read his stories thus far). OK to start with BRIDE, or should I work in something else first?

My only quibble, Brian, is that "nihil" derives from Latin, not German. You know us former English professors--never let a chance for a little pedantry pass by! I will spare you all a lengthier Derridean discourse on "the presence of the absence."

    Mark Nevins
