    I tried a Burke novel a few years ago ("Jolie Blon's Bounce") and gave up on it after about 50 pages. There was too much physical description and the Robicheaux character was way too wise and world-weary, as I recall. I found the style and the character irritating.

    I'm sure this is a minority opinion. Maybe I should give Burke another try. But I found that first experience quite off-putting.
