I came across this fairly detailed and revealing online biography of Horace McCoy:

This is supposed to be a sample from the  'dead-tree' 100 American Crime Writers collection that is to be published in 2009.  Judging from the spines of the books in the header graphic, this will be a book that any HB/noir reader would enjoy.
