Agreed on Contino, and even in the very dark LA Quartet of
novels there are very funny lines and scenes. It's a twisted
sense of humor, somewhat similar to Thompson's, but it's
humor. His greatest creation, Dudley Smith, is pretty darn
funny, as is Buzz Meeks the sewer rat.
