Oh, crap! Shannon's here?
I'm outta here...
No, this should be really good. John brings a very different
and original voice to hard-boiled detective fiction; a real
Frankenstein of a voice. A little DAY OF THE LOCUSTS, a
little Dennis Lynds, a little Tom Joad, a little Chandler and
Ross Macdonald and a lot of what is uniquely, undeniably,
unapologetically pure Shannon. Oh, and Nancy Drew.
No, really...
His detective is Jack Liffey, a turfed-out aerospace worker
who now finds lost children. LA is his stomping ground, and
nobody else does the City of Angels the way John does:
culture by culture, neighbourhood by neighbourhood, fallen
angel by fallen angel. It's a big, constantly shifting,
noirish kaleidoscope of things that don't quite work
right.
Any of you guys out there who haven't read any of John's
books should really check 'em out.
I highly recommend them all, but don't let that stop
you.
Welcome, John.
Tell 'em about the new one coming up.
