I think it was Terrell who mentioned your work when we were discussing apocolyptic ficion. Indeed, you don't seem view Los Angeles as a particularly idyllic.

I have a few questions for you, Mr Shannon -

We have had what seems like an interminable discussion of Elliott Gould's portrayal of Philip Marlowe in Robert Altman's film, The Long Goodbye. I don't want to incite that again so I won't ask you about your view, but do you regard your character, Jack Liffey, is a loser? If that seems too simple, would you please expand on your answer?

 Your view of Los Angeles seems to indicate that you feel the area is headed for disaster. Do you think it is becoming unlivable or is that mainly literary license? Even worse, do you think it has it already reached that state? Mark
