I really dug two novels - "When One Man Dies" by Dave White and "Bad Thoughts" by Dave Zeltersman. The first, a hardboiled PI novel featuring Jackson Donne, had real grit - dirty cops, dope and old sins. The second, noir that echoed Jim Thompson at his best.
