I am proud to announce the release of A HELL OF A WOMAN: AN
ANTHOLOGY OF FEMALE NOIR (edited by Megan Abbott; hardback,
$26; paperback, $18). This "smart, unsentimental, and
unflinchingly brutal" (BUST magazine) collection features
original stories by Lynne Barrett, Charlotte Carter, Christa
Faust, Alison Gaylin, Sara Gran, Libby Fischer Hellmann,
Vicki Hendricks, Naomi Hirahara, Annette Meyers, Donna Moore,
Vin Packer, Rebecca Pawel, Cornelia Read, Lisa Respers
France, S. J. Rozan, Sandra Scoppettone, Zo렓harp, Sarah
Weinman, Ken Bruen, Stona Fitch, Allan Guthrie, Charlie
Huston, Eddie Muller and Daniel Woodrell.
There are also 36 female noir appreciations (over 50 pages
worth!) by some of today's top crime writers and genre
experts, including Kevin Burton Smith (on "Alan Farley" and
Dolores Hitchens), Jonathan Santlofer (on Marlyn Monroe as
Rose Loomis, and Faye Dunaway as Evelyn Mulwray; both with
Santlofer illustrations), Sarah Weinman (on Dorothy B.
Hughes), Bill Crider (on Leigh Brackett), and many, many
more.
Something extra cool: Eddie Muller adapted his Zodiac Killer
noir tale, "The Grand Inquisitor" into a short film starring
noir legend Marsha Hunt. The short will debut at San
Francisco's Noir City Film Festival in late January, and
there will be a big HELL OF A WOMAN event at the festival
& at "M" Is For Mystery in San Mateo... we hope you can
make it!
I strongly encourage everyone to purchase copies of A HELL OF
A WOMAN through their favorite independent bookstores or at
least a brick-and-mortar chain, but, of course, both editions
are available through Amazon.com and BN.com (most stores
& online retailers should have their copies within a
week)... and try to catch up with the NYC and L.A. writers at
their signing events: http://www.bustedflushpress.com/events.php
(to be updated this weekend).
I, Megan Abbott, and McKenna Jordan could not be more proud
of this anthology... it totally rocks, if I do say so myself.
Once you've read it, I'd love to hear from you! Thanks so
much, and have a happy Thanksgiving!
David

superior collection... Megan Abbott has assembled a talented

George Pelecanos. See what Russel McLean (Crime Scene
Scotland) thinks of A Hell of a Woman here. Here's a hint:
"No question, this is one of the strongest anthologies I've
read in a long time. In fact, the first I've digested in one
sitting. But with the incredible array of writers and the
sheer variety of stories involved, I can heartily recommend
picking up A Hell of a Woman."

Handler; hardback, $26; paperback, $18) "One of my all-time
