there is some understanding between folks discussing the
subject. If I casually mentioned at work that I drove my
airplane to the Bloomington downtown square and parked on the
sidewalk, there might be cause for wonderment. If you want to
say something about a genre which carries some ambiguity of
definition, it's a good idea to preface your comments with at
least a vague line drawn around the subject. In view of all
the rich and wonderful subject matter invoked by film and
literature, obsessing with genre definition strikes me as
banal.
