Speaking of Ross Macdonald's metaphors, I read his wife's
novel AN AIR THAT KILLS recently (my thumbs up) and was
struck by her use of intricate metaphors. I wondered if the
Millars influenced each other on writerly aspects of their
books. I haven't read Tom Nolan's bio. for several years, so
he might discuss it.
