There are plenty. Just for starters and confining myself to top of the range writers try - amongst contemporary writers - Daniel Woodrell, James Crumley, Joe Lansdale, James Lee Burke, Stephen Hunter - or going back to the classics - Jim Thompson, Charles Williams and any number of Gold Medal writers. Also William Gay, Newton Thornburg, everything that's ever been compared to Deliverance etc, etc.
