This is a joke I trust? If Lynch directed The Long Goodbye today, it would morph in the middle into Cities of the Red Night. Lynch is a fascinating director, but he has to work on his own stories. Never ask David Lynch to make a movie with a specific ending in mind. Personally I find it fascinating to note the impact of his Twin Peaks TV series on Lost, Jericho, Vanished, Kidnapped, Heros, even Smallville, and many other current or recently past series on modern TV.
