RARA-AVIS: Unreliable narrator

What if the narrator just forgets the important thing and therefore can't announce it to the reader? I have a manuscript* about a PI who's a liar and sociopath, but at a crucial moment he has just too much in his mind and can't give away the information he's just received. Is this okay?
