Karin, if you run across a B movie called "Killer Bait", grab
it. It is superb. My older son, who is nuts about old noir
movies, keeps amassing and amassing... this one is superb, as
is another one called D.O.A. (Rudolph Matte, the master
photographer, directed it).
Everything I've seen by Dassin has been first rate. Another
very fine director of the era is Siodmak. Top notch. I've
been reviewing his career with enourmous enjoyment (and
admiration). There have got to be some Siodmak fans in this
group...
I also got to see, thanks to Barcelona TV, all the early
films of Dreyer (Rudolph Matte connection in some of them).
Those silents were superb and deserve to be known. Dreyer
fans, now that's not even enough for a coterie. Films like
Ordet will strip you bare and then put you through a cold
shower, spellbound, almost enjoying it (!). What a cheerful
guy.
Best,
MrT
