Though not terribly hardboiled, Mike Lupica has a series with a sports reporter. I read two or three of them and found them entertaining. And didn't at least one of William DeAndrea's novels revolve around TV news?

And this is pretty vague, but I seem to remember a book that was made into a movie about a reporter (played by Jeff Bridges, maybe? Mariel Hemingway was in it?) who was contacted by a serial killer -- Mean Summer? no, I think Mean Season? by Katzenbach, maybe?

Wait, didn't Tom Bethany go undercover at a newspaper in one book in Jerome Doolittle's series?
