Does anyone know the correct order of the first three Martin
Beck novels by Maj Sjowall and Per Wahloo? I know that
ROSEANNA was the first one, but about half the sites I just
did a search on claim that THE MAN WHO WENT UP IN SMOKE was
number 2 and THE MAN ON THE BALCONY number 3, whereas the
other half maintain that THE MAN ON THE BALCONY was written
before THE MAN WHO WENT UP IN SMOKE.
I have the UK Sphere paperback editions from the early 70s.
On the front cover of THE MAN ON THE BALCONY, the words "No.
2 in the brilliant Martin Beck series" appear under the
title. Yet the copyright page contains a 1969 copyright date,
whereas the Sphere edition of THE MAN WHO WENT UP IN SMOKE
lists a 1966 copyright date.
