Hi Vicki,
Thanks for the kind words on Fast Lane and Small Crimes. Fast
Lane's kind of a funny book, people who I thought would hate
it have liked it - I've even gotten a letter from a
grandmother telling me how much she liked the book. On the
other hand, I've had a few hardboiled PI readers complain
about how violent it is. I don't believe any of the violence
in the book is gratuitous, but go figure!
Small Crimes hasn't found a home yet. Only a few select
readers, including you, Ken Bruen, and also some
RARA-AVAVIANS have seen it
(along with my agent and some editors). So far 9 out of 10
readers have loved it and 10 out of 10 editors have worried
whether the protagonist is "likeable" enough. One of Ken's
comments was that there was noir without compromise. Well,
recently I compromised. I just did a rewrite, softening the
protagonist, making him more "likeable". Whether that gets it
sold, we'll see.
