I have some photos from Cu Chi which I can post sometime
(soon, I hope, possibly this week). You hear about the
tunnels, but nothing quite prepares you for seeing the
things. I swear a ten-year-old would have trouble moving in
them.
************* Post em! I wanna see em! Who took the pictures?
We've got caves outside of Bloomington that I've done my
share of, some of them pretty tight. Wayne's Lost is a
thousand foot crawl to get into, but only the last 300 feet
is flat on your belly squirming forward.
I have a friend who has told me of moves he had to make
where he had to exhale before he could do it. WAHOOO!! Too
much for me. Am I getting off-topic? To bring it back,
Trevanian's SHIBUMI has some great caving scenes in it.
Although probably too simplistic and sensationalistic for
some, I heartily recommend anything by Trevanian, especially
SHIBUMI and EIGER SANCTION. Doing it by feel, SHIBUMI stands
as a good argument that hardboiled doesn't require the
colloquial.
