If you're thinking of the Parker novels by Richard Stark they
do have a very tough reputation and deservedly so. Excellent
books. Although, as I think someone on the list mentioned,
the latest one, Nobody Runs Forever, leaves a little to be
desired. But I've enjoyed all the ones I've been able to
find. The early ones, before Stark brought Parker back, don't
exist as far as my library is concerned.
