I can't remember who suggested a Ross Thomas month, but whoever you are, thanks. I just finished OUT ON THE RIM (1987), after racing through it at top speed, enjoying every minute. This one of the three about Wu and Durant, a pair of hardboiled adventurers and con artists, who here get involved with a plan to bribe a Filipino terrorist with $5 million so he'll leave the country and let others get on with the post-Marcos rule.

I can identify with your comment about racing through it. Thomas's style and plotting invites that.

Beyond BRIARPATCH, I haven't read any more of Thomas's oeuvre. I've got THE FOURTH DURANGO sitting on the shelf, but I don't find the plot summary for it too enticing. Thomas has a great talent for dialogue, perhaps the best I've read since Thornberg's CUTTER AND BONE.
