Karin, I confess: I've been reading early Macdonald, too.
This is Kenneth Millar's "Trouble Follows Me"(1946, Dodd,
Mead), a book I have had in the shelves for years, always
looked over and passed up. It's a very good postwar novel. I
detect something of Nelson Algren in the telling.
Well worth reading, and quite different from the Lew Archer
series. This is pretty tense stuff, and angry at times.
Best,
MrT
