"Edward Bunker, THE ANIMAL FACTORY (1977). I've never read
any Bunker, but he's highly recommended by people on the

A very nice and, not surprisingly, very authentic reading
prison novel. And Steve Buscemi made it a good movie out of
it a couple years ago. Still, I prefer Bunker's No Beast So
Fierce (AKA Straight Time), but that probably has more to do
with my personal preference for just out of prison novels to
inside prison novels than either book's relative
quality.
