The beginning of "The Naked Lunch" is a good example of
hardboiled paranoia and clearly a product of the late
fifties, but it's only the beginning. It's a great work of
literature, but not for everyone.
I read "Queer" couple of months back, but it wasn't as good
as
"Junky". Interesting nevertheless and should be read by
anyone who's read "Junky". It continues the story of Bill
Lee, but this time the book focuses more on his relationships
with other men.
William Burroughs as a hardboiled writer: didn't he write a
story for the New Black Mask in the early seventies? I wonder
what it was like.
