By and large, this seems like a very idiosyncratic
take on Southern California hardboiled series. To overlook
the subject of what is or is not hardboiled, some on the list
are not series at all. To my knowledge, there are no "Eddie
Jelko books" by Steven Bochco, just the single title, "Death
By Hollywood." If the two Chili Palmer books by Elmore
Leonard constitute a series, then where are the two Terry
McCaleb books by Mike Connelly? Several novels in the John
Shannon's Jack Liffey series are set in South Central, but
some are not (notably "The Orange Curtain.") And, assuming
we're talking about series still active in the last decade or
so (explaining the absent Ross Macdonald and Ross Thomas, to
name but two) what about the series by Terence Flaherty, Paul
Bishop, Robert Eversz, Arthur Lyons, Gerald Petievich, Roger
L. Simon, Michael Nava, Lynda La Plante, Teri White and Jan
Burke?
