Recently in my PBs buys, I picked up two titles by Ed Lacy,
THE MEN FROM THE BOYS and MOMENT OF UNTRUTH. I remembered
seeing his name from the rara-avis archives/emails. Of the
two, I preferred MEN, which, as noted, uses some boxing
material. Also are descriptions of surf fishing and meat
packing. Narrated in First Person, this protagonist was
nicely fleshed out. A solid noir.
MOMENT is about PI Touie Moore, an African-American
protagonist whose case takes him from NYC to Mexico City. The
semi-zany plot and breezy writing style remined me of Richard
S. Prather. An enjoyable read.
