It's Chandler for the same reason it's Dick: because that's
the name the ignorant "hipster" is most likely to recognize.
(Imagine Ross Macdonald meets Frederik Pohl, to say nothing
of David Goodis meets William Tenn.)
I haven't read Morgan, but have heard mostly good things.

Carbon
I saw the book Altered Carbon by Richard Morgan in a
bookstore today. It had the usual "Raymond Chandler meets PK
Dick" blurb that seems to appear on the jacket of every
sci-fi noir. (Why is it always Chandler?) Anyone read it? Is
it any good?
