The interesting thing about this is that the editor of BLACK
MASK, Joseph T. Shaw, didn't like serials in BLACK MASK, so
any novel that was serialized in his magazine had to be
written so that each installment could stand on its own as a
short story.
****************** I was going to object to this and state
that I read that Shaw was the driving force behind the
popularity of serials in Black Mask, but on second thought
that reference probably referred to characters that appeared
and reappeared, rather than to serial stories.
