RARA-AVIS: Ray Chandler and hip-hop

We've occasionally noted the ties between hardboiled/noir and hip-hop. Well, I was reading Yes Yes Y'All, a history of hip-hop culture, and ran across this:

Ray Chandler: Pioneering hip-hop promoter who ran the Black Door club/Black Door Productions and booked Grandmaster Flash and the Furious 5. Known for his imposing stature, no-nonsense attitude, and his hiring of the notorious Cassanova Crew as is security.

Down those mean Bronx Streets a man must go?
