Ahh! Thanks, Alan. It's a lot simpler than what I thought. It reminds me of Meaker's memoir of Highsmith and how Patricia complained about how the movie of her book was referred to as "Hitchcock's Strangers on a Train." My guess would be that she wasn't a big fan of the auteur philosophy.
