The restored Big Sleep came out in the past few years, after
Touch of Evil, I think. It has several scenes that were later
replaced by some new scenes featuring flirting between Bogart
and Bacall to capitalize on the success of their pairing in
To Have and Have Not. Overall, the version everyone knows and
loves works better, However, they should have left in the
scene in the cop station where the various murders to that
point were explained. It helps a whole hell of a lot. I
haven't bought it yet, but I'm pretty sure the DVD has both
versions, plus a short documentary about the changes.
