RARA-AVIS: Simenon's THE MOUSE

I took a stab at Simenon's THE MOUSE (M. LA SOURIS) (1938, but in a green Penguin translation) but can't match Mr. Moore's enthusiasm. It's not one of his noirs, which I didn't mind, but it's the third or fourth Simenon I've tried and not finished. This is a slim book, but I soon found myself flipping through to the end to see how the crime worked out. There's something about his style that keeps his stories from interesting me. I'm not sure what it is.
