Mister Grey,

I don't think Marlowe ever mentioned his home town in any of the novels or stories.

However, in a letter Chandler wrote that includes a mini-biography of Marlowe, he states that his character is from Sonoma County, a rural area in the northern part of the San Francisco Bay Area.

FWIW, in that same later, he said that he imagined Marlowe as looking a lot like Cary Grant. Talk about inappropriate accents!
