The "Girl In Trouble"/"Girl As Spy" theme
can be traced back at least as far as that woman in Robert
Donat's apartment in the 1935, Hitchcock-directed
"Thirty-Nine Steps." With a bit of effort, one can probably
find examples even earlier.
