Anderson's THIEVES LIKE US, Homes's BUILD MY GALLOWS HIGH, Gresham's NIGHTMARE ALLEY, Willeford's WILD WIVES, and Whitfield's GREEN ICE all have the scent of noir to them, and all involve professionals who take the dive.

The power of the noir world is not so weak as to only be able to prey upon the amateurs and innocents.
