I don't think of Maigret as hardboiled, but I do think that
Simenon's non-Maigret stories are noir.
Supposedly, he wrote only eight days a month but completed a
novel in that time -- his books are much shorter than the
average category novel of today.
Simenon, I belive, he is one of the most underrated detective
and noir novelist, perhaps because he didn't write in
English.
The only Maigret's I didn';t like were those that took place
in the U.S.
Somewhere along the line, we should consider him for
discussion on this list.
