I jumped the gun a bit with this title, since its publication
date was in 1952. The plot involves a Border Patrol agent who
is out to revenge a Cuban friend's murder. The love interest
is dated but probably pretty standard for its time.
What strikes me most is 50 years after its publication, the
prose style stands up well. Pacing and action sequences are
solidly done.
Any earlier (1940s) novels by this same author
recommended?
