Beloved is a pretty hard read: some horrible things happen.
It is a story of survival. (There's a lot more to it,
though.) Like all the other books by Toni Morrison that I've
read, it has a supernatural element that doesn't really
appeal to me.

PS The audio links in the Rankin-Bourdain interview are worth
a listen, just for the sound of their voices. There's also
the fact that the transcript is cleaned up a bit and so you
get a couple of extra nuances from the real speech.
