In most instances, the fact that he has a PhD in literature
should *give rise* to questions regarding his views, not
discourage them. This is particularly true with regard to
popular (as opposed to "literary," not that they're
necessarily antithetical) writing.
I would grant an exception to this rule in the case of any
PhD with common sense enough to be a member of the
Rara-Avians.
I have my M.A., and sometimes I think I got out just in time,
while I could still read for pleasure without wondering about
the symbolism of every prop that's longer in one dimension
than the other two.
