Here's a weird twist to Willeford's _Pick-Up_ that I just
finished reading. It was bought by Beacon Books in 1954, the
pb line that published his 2nd novel
_High Priest of California_ after it had been REJECTED by
Gold Medal.
Anyway, _Pick-Up_ was a reading treat. The humor is deadpan
and rich. I remember reading Willeford's Hoke Mosley title
(_The Way We Die Now_) where the protag takes out his false
teeth to go on an undercover assignment. Only time I've run
across that.
