RARA-AVIS: Police Procedural definition

I have a collection called, "The Menace Masters: Tales from Boucher's Choicest," and editor Jeanne F. Bernkopf refers to the Joe Gores' story,
"File #1: The Mayfield Case" as a "private-detective procedural story." She says Gores provides "the day-to-day routine of the profession and its basic hard-nosed attitude toward life." The story includes date/time lines before sections. Now we can start carving up p.i. novels/stories by the sub-genres
"p.i.-traditional" and "p.i.-procedural" and "p.i.-n.c." (no category). Actually, let's not do that taxonomy. Doug
